The Fire Management and Restoration Fund (FOMAFUR, in Spanish) supported nine local organizations to strengthen their capacity in fire prevention, fire management, and restoration of affected areas, in collaboration with the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (CONANP, acronym in Spanish) and the National Forestry Commission (CONAFOR, acronym in Spanish). These organizations trained and equipped community brigades made up of CONANP staff, who played a key role in fire prevention and response, trail rehabilitation, and patrols in high-risk areas. They also carried out activities such as manual fuel management, prescribed burning, firebreak clearing, and firefighting. In total, 25 fire management brigades were supported, with an emphasis on gender equity in their composition and operation. Over 150 people received training in fire prevention and response, and environmental education on fire was scaled up through educational materials and radio announcements.
